An anonymous reader wrote in today to let us know about the new capabilities Google added to its Webmaster Tools. Google plans to run some tests and alert webmasters if their site looks like it might have a security hole or be hackable. For example, if you are running a vulnerable version of WordPress as your blogging platform. From Google's post: This is a test, so we're starting out by alerting five to six thousand webmasters.

Definitely this is a good start and a great feature. I would love to see all ISP and hosting providers adding similar capabilities for their customers.

FYI, Google's Webmaster Tools is a free service for webmasters that provides info about Google's view of your website. You can get details about Googlebot interactions with your site, crawl issues, indexing details, links and top queries pointing to you, and even instruct Google how you would like to be crawled and what are your most important pages. The additional security capabilities added to this portfolio deserve a mention.
